Going into Iraq was not a mistake

With Iraq having an amazing election recently, I think for my first post we should look back at the case for freeing the people of Iraq. It has been the conventional wisdom by left and by the media and even some on the right that the war in Iraq was a mistake.
After 9/11 it was clear that that Bill Clinton’s strategy for fighting terrorism had failed the law and order light military action plan for dealing with terrorism did not stop the 9/11 attacks or the attacks that came before it. The Bush team decided to change that plan, America was going to go to war with terrorists and take them on directly with its armed forces but the U.S was also going to push for democracy in the Middle East to counter act the appeal of terrorists
That brings us to Saddam Hussein an evil tyrant who had used his WMDs against his own people and the people of Iran. He had funded and supported terrorists groups like Islamic Jihad. He invaded two nations and used oil as a weapon all those actions threatening a stable oil market therefore threatening the U.S and rest of the developed world’s security.
Saddam also still had the intention and the capability to build WMDs, the sanctions were breaking down and Saddam had a lot of money so the question the USA has to ask itself is would we have been better off waiting. Would we have been better off if we waited until Saddam invaded another nation that threatened the developed world’s security? No doubt- stronger and maybe this time with those WMDs he wanted to develop.
What if Saddam decided to give a WMD to one of those terror groups he was funding? Saddam might have not trusted radical’s but his past shows that he was willing to work with them to fight a common enemy
Also with Iran going intending to get the nuke and Saddam wanting to get one would the USA have been better off waiting around as two major enemies, get the atomic bomb, threatening the U.S and rest of the developed world? Now the USA could have picked a side maybe we could have worked with Saddam or the government of Iran but isn’t that what gave us 9/11 in the first place? The U.S should work to break its dealings with oppressive governments not make them stronger
Saddam also kept shooting at U.S and U.K plains in the no fly zone what would the USA or the UK have done if Saddam had shot and killed one of the people in those plane?
The point I am making is that Saddam was a threat for all kind of reasons and if left in power he could be behind all kind of horrific problems. Now the U.S has handed Al-Qaeda and Iran a big lost and gained a democracy that is a friendly to the USA In the Middle East
Bush did the right thing
